Abdominal Ultrasound

Full abdominal ultrasound investigation will include assessment of all abdominal organs, including the Liver, Gall bladder, Stomach, Pancreas, Spleen, Kidneys, Adrenals, Small and Large intestines, and the urogenital tract. Patients will require a minimum 12 hour starvation and sedation for this procedure to allow for the best quality scan. Patients that are not stable for sedation may be scanned conscious but this may compromise the quality of the scan.

Previous Case Studies

This patient presented with a long history of vomiting and anorexia. Note the severe wall oedema and thickening. Cholecystocentesis confirmed the diagnosis of bacterial cholecystitis and was invaluable the treatment of this case

This image shows an enlarged hepatic lymph node. This node was associated with the cholecystitis case seen previously and eluded to the secondary choleangiohepatitis which was subsequently diagnosed with Trucut liver biopsies

Full assessment of abdominal organs includes the kidneys which appear normal in this case.

Full assessment of abdominal organs for every case includes the spleen. IN this case the patient showed no abnormalities in splenic architecture

Assessment of arenal glands can be challenging but extremely useful in diagnosing a number of hormonal and neoplastic conditions including hyperadrenocorticism, hypoadrenocorticism and pheochromocytomas .
